Old people have wisdom, but God has wisdom and power. Old people have insight. God has insight and power. – Job 12:13
As a woman who recently entered her ‘third act’ in life, I’ve noticed over the years, the change in how woman are regarded. As a young woman in the seventies, women were revered – actually cherished, by men. This was evidenced by the lyrics of some of the most popular songs at that time.
Songs such as ‘Lady Love ‘, ‘My Girl’, and ‘You’re My Everything’ expressed love and appreciation for the woman they loved, or sadness and regret for the one that got away.
A lot has changed since then, including the music and the messages being delivered. Today, women are being attacked, degraded and regarded as merely sex objects in the music produced today. These musical themes have been repeated by every rapper and top recording artist over the last 20 years. It’s not surprising that these messages have had an adverse impact on the self-image of young women today.
Through weekly pearls of wisdom, my goal is to restore the pride and dignity of each woman who has had their joy, respect and value diminished by those who’ve failed to honor and respect women .By learning the spiritual, mental and emotional power they hold as a woman, there will be far fewer tears shed over broken relationships and other disappointments in life.
Charm is deceptive and beauty disappears, but a woman who honors the LORD should be praised. Give her credit for all she does. She deserves the respect of everyone. – Proverbs 31:30-31
Wisdom Activity: Meditate on the lyrics of songs that deliver a positive image of women. Many can be found as part of the Motown sound. My grand baby loves the Bruno Mars song ’Just the Way You Are’, which is another ‘feel good´song.
